What to See in Chuo City
The bay area of Chuo Ward in Tokyo is called ”Tsukishima”.The origin of the word is
”constructed island”, the same as ”Tsukiji”, which locates across the Sumida River.
At the mouth of the Sumida River in the early Edo Period, there were only two islets,
the ”Tsukudajima” and the ”Ishikawa-jima”. It took a long time for the land to be reclaimed,
and by the beginning of the Showa period, the land had spread to the present block
Tsukuda, Tsukishima, Kachidoki, Toyomi, and Harumi. Nowadays,
the history and culture are firmly rooted in the streets lined with condo towers.
