Harumi Kindergarten One School One Country Project

Harumi Kindergarten supports China for the “One School One Country Project”. Since our preschool is attended by many children who are from China, we thought of supporting them and be in touch with their culture.

In the year before, we invited two residents of Harumi who are from China to share with us their traditional dresses and perform folk dances for our students. Furthermore, they connected us to a kindergarten in China through Skype and students from each country interacted with each other online.

Last year as well as this year, the students had an exchange session with Chinese primary school students. The students played traditional Japanese games (top spinning and kendama etc.) and rhythm games that students play at the kindergarten every day. Since there are a lot of Chinese-speakers among our parents, the kindergarten asked for translation support. Through the efforts of the parents, the students managed to leap the language barrier and communicate with each other.

By involving parents and children alike, participants were able to touch upon the linguistic and cultural differences of each other.

We would like to continue providing these opportunities to appreciate various Chinese cultures by involving the parents and others.
