Tsukishima Daisan Elementary School

At our school, we work on the “One School One Country Project” with the United States of America, our main cultural exchange country, though the initiatives below.

Through exchange
Every year, we invite the staff from the American embassy to learn about culture and life in America. Also, we interact with Olympians and key government officials who are visiting Japan. Last year, the students spent enjoyable time with Olympic ice dancers Alex and Maia Shibutani, and this year we invited Captain Manuel Picon of the U.S. Navy.

Through academic subjects
Students explore about culture and life in America during the class periods of life environment studies and integrated learning periods. Furthermore, students learn English and get exposed to culture and life in America through our ALT (Assistant Language Teachers – teachers of English from foreign countries).

Through the environment
understanding of the national flag. Also, we have an American information corner near the entrance of the first floor where students can learn about topics such as the geography and food culture in America.
